Obituary for Lonnie T. Adkison

Lonnie Adkison, age eighty-one, passed away on Sunday, September 23rd, 2018. He was a friend to many and a stranger to none. His kind heart and infectious personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was known for his tall tales, many of which grew taller as the years passed.
Lonnie’s most important role was that of a devoted family man. He was married to his loving wife Irene for fifty-eight years. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandson. He was also a devout Christian man and a lifelong member of Caswell Springs United Methodist Church in Wade, Mississippi.
Lonnie graduated from Wade High School in 1955 and continued his education at the University of Southern Mississippi. He received his master’s degree in science education and went on to teach high school science classes for seven years. He was a lifelong proponent of education, serving as a Jackson County school board member for twelve years and chairman of the school board for four of those years. He also worked at Chevron Oil Refinery for thirty years as an operator, retiring in 1997.
Lonnie’s life was filled with many hobbies and interests. He was a talented baseball pitcher in his youth, and his love of baseball continued throughout his life. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and a strong supporter of East Central High School athletics. He was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and always appreciated the beauty in nature.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie (Francis) Adkison, father Reuben Vinson Adkison, and infant son Selwyn Scott Adkison. He is survived by his wife Irene Adkison, son, Ronald; daughter, Kimberly; his grandson, Josh; granddaughter-in-law, Jess; brothers, Eaul (Eloise) and Terry (Beverly); nephews, nieces, and many more relatives and friends.
The Adkison family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all their family and friends who have supported them during this difficult time. Lonnie’s life will be celebrated with a wake at Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 26th at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and funeral service at Caswell Springs United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 27th at 11:00 am, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, is in charge of arrangements.
