Obituary for James "Jim" Rigney

Mr. James W. “Jim” Rigney Sr., 79, of Gautier, MS, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 in Ocean Springs, MS. Jim was born on August 19, 1939 in Chicora, MS to the late Isaac and Mary Ellen Rigney. Jim grew up in Mobile, AL and was a 1959 graduate of Murphy High School, where he played baseball and was a member of the “M” Club. He loved all sports, especially golf, and enjoyed watching his grandchildren, who were the loves of his life, play sports and participate in other activities. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and he loved to camp with his “Friends on Wheels” RV Club. He retired from Chevron Refinery in Pascagoula, MS as the Training Coordinator after 31 years of service and he along with his wife Jean were members of Martin Bluff Baptist Church in Gautier.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Jackie Owens and Barbara Gamara.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jean Grant Rigney; children, James William (Dehon) Rigney Jr. and Chrissie Rigney (Vance) Cochran; grandchildren, Emily Cochran, James Cochran, Jacob Cochran, and Caroline Rigney; siblings, Murphy (Vonice) Rigney, Doris (Harry) Harris, Patricia (John) Lobb, and Mary Aileen (Mark) Larson; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen (Charles) Parker; his four legged companion, Jay Jay; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The visitation for Jim will held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Martin Bluff Baptist Church in Gautier, MS. The funeral service will follow at the church beginning at 12 noon with Dr. Frank Rice and Pastor Josh Cochran officiating. Entombment will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Cemetery in Mobile, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101 in memory of Jim.
Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated in Escatawpa/Moss Point, MS is in charge of arrangements.
