Obituary for Andrea "Ann" Allen

Andrea “Ann” German Allen, 53, of Grand Bay, AL left this world on Saturday, July 13, 2019, in Mobile, AL. She was born March 9, 1966, in Hartford, CT to Lawrence and Agnes “Gertie” German. She was a graduate of Moss Point High School, class of 1984, where she met the love of her life, Julius Tracy Allen. The two joined each other in holy matrimony on October 2, 1987 and would go on to complete their family with three wonderful children, Joshua, Amanda, and Nicholas Allen.

She loved volunteering at her children’s elementary school, Cora Castlen Elementary where she discovered her calling in education and met her mentor and inspriration, Joan Barger, who took Andrea under her wing for 10 years. Joan encouraged Ann to pursue her dreams by pushing her to seek a degree in education. Andrea attended University of Mobile where she earned her associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 2004, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She returned to achieve her bachelor’s degree in 2008.

Andrea accepted her first teaching position at West Elementary where she was selected as “Teacher of the Year” only one year after beginning her career. She later moved on to Escatawpa Upper Elementary where as part of the A-team, she brightened the lives of many 6th graders teaching Reading and English, and was once more selected as “Teacher of the Year”. In 2014, her career carried her to Trent Lott Academy in Pascagoula.

Andrea has left behind a colorful, vibrant legacy. As a champion of education, she has served as an advocate of literacy for countless young minds, loving each of her students as her own children. Teaching was not only her passion but her gift, given to her by the Lord.

Andrea had a passion for books. Her favorite novel was “The Giver” by Lois Lowry. An ironic choice, because Andrea knew that knowledge is power, and she dedicated her life to imparting this wisdom not only to her students, but to each soul she touched, making her a giver.

Along with her parents, Andrea was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, and brothers, David German and Scott German.

She is survived by her husband, Tracy Allen; children, Joshua Allen, Amanda Allen, and Nicholas Allen; sisters, Lori (Alan) Parker and Diane (Martin) Holmes; brother-in-law, Kirk (Theresa) Allen, father-in-law, Anthony (Johnette) Allen; nephews, Andrew Parker and Stephen Allen; nieces, Malory (Joshua) Benson, Melanie (Jonathan) Prentice, Alana Parker, and Monica Allen; granddaughter, Avalynn; 3 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Trent Lott Academy, 2234 Pascagoula St, Pascagoula, MS 39567, in Mrs. Andrea Allen's memory.
