Obituary for Raymond Curtiss Fulton

Retired Pascagoula Police Captain Raymond Curtiss Fulton, 69, took his last earthly breath Tuesday morning, October 10, 2017, surrounded by his wife and children in his Pascagoula home.
Capt. Fulton ruined many a Pascagoula resident’s day during his 27 years in law enforcement! Best known as a traffic officer, he wore out countless ticket books. “That a%&hole, Raymond Fulton, gave me a ticket,” is a common, yet fond, recollection among the numerous violators, who, ironically, also called him “Friend.”
Fulton had a knack for writing more than tickets, though. He was a handwriting expert in his criminal investigation work and a calligraphy artist and instructor as a hobby. His other passions included fishing, woodworking, and singing while playing the guitar. A family favorite was The Battle of Kookamonga; he would even play it at Christmas time, much to his daughters’ delight. He was such a devoted fan of country singer Marty Robbins that he was tapping his foot to the sound of Robbins’ voice right up to the end.
A man’s life measured in the value of relationships made Fulton a very wealthy man. His marriage to Becky boasted great enjoyment of each other’s company and a love of breaking bread together. Often enjoying Mexican food at Coco Loco in Escatawpa with family and friends, Fulton had a flair for fun, especially in a sombrero. He was a driving force to his children, whether passing on the work ethic and precision of woodworking to his son or wishing his daughters luck before every test, “Good luck; I love you!” Paw Paw adored his family, especially his grandchildren.
Fulton graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1968. He then worked in the local shipyard and Montie’s Sporting Goods before graduation from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy and various other training programs. He joined the Pascagoula Police Department in 1976, retiring in 2003.
Raymond Fulton was born September 12, 1948 in Newton County, Mississippi to Prentiss and Dorothy Bounds Fulton. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rivers Fulton. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Anita Rebecca “Becky” Nettles Fulton; son Raymond Curtiss “Corey” Fulton, II, of Amite, Louisiana, twin daughters Lauren Fulton Daniel (Reid), of Pascagoula, and Lindsay Michelle Cox, of Gautier; nine grandchildren: Matthew Seth Fulton, Logan Chase Burgess, Blake Robert Fulton, Noah Raymond Fulton, Jori Grace Fulton, Hayden Alexander Cox, Madyson Leigh Cox, Shelby Fulton Daniel, and Patton Reid Daniel; sisters Gloria Alexander and Carolyn “Kitty” Lightsey, and brother Robert “Bob” Fulton.
