Obituary for Earl Keith Bond

Earl Keith Bond passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 1, 2018, after a nine year battle with cancer. He was born on August 28, 1936, in Wiggins, MS to Otta Virginia and Earl Andrew Bond. They moved to Gautier early in his life where his father had several businesses. He attended school in Gautier and Pascagoula through the 9th grade, graduating from Perkinston Agricultural High School. After graduation, he worked for eight years in the oil field and off-shore. He then went to work for Chevron Corp. in Pascagoula where he retired as Head Operator after 27 years. During these years, he helped form the Martin Bluff water system, where he served as president. He was the first duly elected Gautier representative of the Jackson County School Board, where he also served as president. Earl was a faithful member of the Ezel Masonic Lodge #426 in Vancleave for 53 years, where he served as Past Master and also as secretary. He has spent 25 wonderful years in retirement. He and his wife of 24 years, Emily Dickson Savage Bond, spent that time traveling to every state in the U.S. and providences in Canada, Mexico, England, Scotland, and France. He loved genealogy, growing all sorts of trees, fruits, and berries on his acre in Vancleave, and his birds and wildlife.
He attended Vancleave Methodist Church where he worked with volunteers, who came after Hurricane Katrina, for seven years. And he also helped build wheelchair ramps for those in need.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald, Andy and Cleve, step-daughter, Kristen Savage and step-son Michael Savage.
He is survived by his wife, Emily; daughters, Stefanie Bond of Woolmarket, Charlotte (Jeff) McLaughlin of Hockley, TX, and Lisa (David) Harrington of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Ashton Harrington of Charlotte, NC and Hayden Harrington of Seattle, WA.; step-daughters, Sandra Savage Turner of Huntsville, AL and Katie Savage of Pearl, MS; step-grandchildren, J.D. Savage of Lucedale, Jason Turner of Easley, SC, and Laura Savage of D’Iberville; step-great-grandsons, Cody Savage of St. Martin and Wesley Savage of Monterey, CA, and five step-great, great-granddaughters, who love their “Papa Earl” dearly. And his old dog, pumpkin, and many other relatives and friends.
We want to thank the wonderful people at Hospice of Light, especially his nurse, Donna York, for taking special care of Earl and his family during this difficult time. You were truly a blessing.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Red Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in North Vancleave, with a Masonic graveside service.
Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated in Moss Point, MS is in charge of the funeral arrangements. You may view and sign the online guest book for Earl Keith Bond at www.heritagefuneralhome.us
