Obituary for Denoris "Bub" Cumbest

Denoris “Bub” Cumbest, 82, of Wade, MS, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 11, 2018 in Pascagoula, MS surrounded by his family. Bub was born on January 25, 1936 in Moss Point, MS to the late Quitman Calvin and Gladys Goff Cumbest. Bub will be remembered most for his kindness, compassion, and for the overwhelming love and dedication he had for his family. It was often said, “he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it”, and it was the truth. He had an unforgettable jolly laugh and wonderful sense of humor, and was great at his entertaining and storytelling abilities. He had an unconditional love for everyone and an ability to always make you feel like family. His strength and willingness to stand up and fight for what was right was important to him, but nothing was more important than the love he had for the Lord. Bub was a veteran of the United States Army, which allowed him to serve in Germany. It was during this time that Bub met his best friend in 1959, Jim Jarros of Minnesota, who he loved very much and would always refer to him as his “Yankee Brother”. Through the years, he worked for the International Paper Mill, Brown and Root, and Mississippi Power. He also owned and operated the Cumbest Chevron in Three Rivers, and later retired as an OTR truck driver. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on the river, but he never enjoyed anything more than spending time with his family. He also loved traveling and gallivanting with his special group of lifelong friends, who referred to themselves as the “dirty dozen”. In his last few years, he spent his days watching Jimmy Swaggart and enjoying his passion of gospel music by listening to the Gaithers.
In addition to his parents, Bub was preceded in death by his sister, Doll Faggard, brother-in-law, L.C. Faggard, brother, Cleveland Cumbest, and his sister-in-law, Deanie Cumbest.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Hattie Lou Walters Cumbest; son, Daryl Ross (Tanya) Cumbest; granddaughters, Kacy (Joe) Blume and Dara (Ken) Benefield; great-grandchildren, Autumn Blume, Cameron Blume, and Lexie O’Neal; twin sister, Deloris Carter; fur buddy, Shorty Cumbest; along with many nieces and nephews, whom he loved so much.
The visitation for Bub will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Caswell Springs United Methodist Church in Wade, MS. The funeral service will follow at the church beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Gene Emswiler and Bro. H.W. Parker officiating. Interment will be held in the church cemetery with Blaine White, Rustin Porter, Jason Porter, Tommy Faggard, and Craig Carter serving as pallbearers.
Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, in Escatawpa/Moss Point, MS is in charge of arrangements.
