Obituary for Clifton Wayne Dahlgren

Clifton Wayne Dahlgren, 74 years, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, in Gautier, MS. He was born November 24, 1942, and grew up in Escatawpa, MS. His parents were Robert and Joyce Dahlgren. He had one brother, Robert Lee (Bob) Dahlgren, Jr. On October 5, 1963, Wayne married Carol Leigh Anderson, and they lived most of their 54 years of marriage in Gautier, MS. They had one daughter Cynthia and three sons Bruce, Todd, and Steven. Wayne was a member of First Baptist Church of Gautier.



Wayne liked to read, fish, and build boats and ships. In May 1979 – May 1980, Wayne and his three sons built a 15 ft. wood bass boat and named it “FINALLY”’ in which Wayne enjoyed going fishing with his wife and children in the Pascagoula River and in the bayous in the marshlands off the river. Wayne, also, helped build many ships in the Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS, for the U.S. Navy. In February 2003, six of the ships that Wayne helped to build went to Iraq to fight in Operation Iraqi Freedom.



Wayne worked a total of a little over 48 years at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. In 1961, he began working in the Ingalls Pipefitter Apprenticeship Program. In 1966, he left the Shipyard for one year and returned in May 1967. From 1967 to his retirement on Aug. 27, 2010, Wayne worked up from pipefitter and welder into leadership and management positions. He worked on submarines, a variety of ships, and oil rigs. Wayne helped build LHA 1 through LHA 5 ships and LHD 1 through LHD 7 ships. Then, in 2002 until his retirement, Wayne worked as a consultant assisting Engineering and Planning. He helped in the planning to build LHA 6 and LHD 8 ships. A U.S. Flag was flown on LHA 6 America at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS, on Sept. 20, 2010 in honor of Wayne Dahlgren’s 48 years of service. The flag was framed and was given to Wayne at the retirement celebration on Sept. 23, 2010.



Wayne was preceded in death by one grandchild, Jacob Dahlgren; his father, Robert Lee Dahlgren, Sr.; his brother, Robert Lee (Bob) Dahlgren, Jr.; and his mother, Joyce Evelyn Dahlgren.



Wayne Dahlgren is survived by his wife Carol, four children, eight grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.



The visitation for Wayne will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gautier. The funeral service will follow at the church beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Aultman officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery, in Gautier behind the church.



In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a cancer research organization of your choice.
